A major trophy remains out of reach of the England men’s football team.

Spain have denied England a first major title since 1966, with a clinical 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin.

Spain claimed a fourth European Championship title and a third since 2008, going through the tournament with a perfect seven victories.

Nico Williams scored the only goal less than two minutes into the second half following an opening 45 minutes which saw few chances for both teams.

England once again levelled the scores, for the fourth time in the knockout phase, with a strike outside the box by Cole Palmer in the 73rd minute.

However, Mikel Oyarzabal netted the winner with four minutes remaining.

England were denied off the line twice from a corner after the 90th minute.

For England, it’s a second straight runner-up finish at the Euros after losing the 2021 competition final to Italy in a shoot-out.
